5 Dad-Approved Comfort Foods

19 Jun. 2020
Father's Day

Dads. The proof that not all heroes wear capes. The ones who come in handy when time comes to learn the basics; like tying shoelaces and riding a bike. The ones who show up for morning practice, and evening games. The ones who stand on the sidelines, attentively observing our every move. They watch us play, grow, and blossom. Until away we go.

They show up when we need them to, when we want them to, and when we tell them to. Along with moms, they do their best to be the best. They’ll make us laugh to their not-so-funny jokes, and they’ll make us want to cook next time they say they’ll be in charge for dinner. Dads provide a feeling of security. They provide support. They provide comfort.

This Sunday is Father’s Day. To honour each Dad, this week’s Top Five Friday is dedicated to them and the comfort they carry around. The following list holds 5 Dad-approved comfort foods. Because after all, they deserve a little comfort, too.

Homemade Pizza

Homemade pizza

You assuredly can’t go wrong with pizza! Many people loathe the idea to make their own– and it’s understandable. However, there are many ways to personalize pizza without going full-out on the homemade dough and tomato sauce. We recommend that you use store-bought pizza dough and your favourite tomato sauce, be it from the local grocery store or your own. Then, get all the toppings dad wants, from bacon to green peppers, and throw that evenly on the tomato sauce. Add the cheese of his liking (i.e fresh mozzarella) and put the masterpiece in the oven! Voilà! A homemade pizza, right there, made with love for dad.

Pulled Pork Sandwiches

pulled pork

A great option for a meat lover! Pulled pork is ideally served with warm buns and coleslaw; the perfect combo. Slow cooked, this meal is a great idea for a late lunch or dinner. Who doesn’t like the taste of barbecue sauce, honestly? We’re sure Dad does!

Mac N Cheese

mac and cheese

A classic, nothing less. You definitely can’t go wrong with mac & cheese. It’s the perfect comfort meal for anyone, especially for dads, and is a go-to all-year round. Father’s Day this year is scheduled to be warm and sunny, and coming home from a day outside to a hearty mac & cheese is exactly what dad needs. Choose a mix of high-quality cheeses and add toppings like bacon, sausages, or hamburger meat to personalize it to your dad’s liking!

Deep-Dish Chocolate Cookie to Share

giant cookie

Sharing is caring, right? Nothings beats a giant, warm cookie served with vanilla ice cream. It’s the perfect recipe for a family to enjoy together over the counter. And hey, you can’t really go wrong with chocolate, can you?

Guinness Brownies

Another great dessert option, filled with chocolate. The Guinness beer is optional here; you could simply bake regular brownies and we’re sure dad would love them just like that! But we feel like dads love to enjoy a beer when it’s hot and sunny out, so why not incorporate some in brownies? The taste is super subtle, and adds a rich moisture to this unbeatable classic.

Thank You, Dad

For being you. For being there. And for being a source of comfort.
