Top Five Friday
5 Reasons Why Dads are Awesome
Whether he’s your biological father or a man who is there for you and took the role without hesitation; whether he’s retired or still working every day; whether he knows how to decently cook or prefers the take-out route, we’re celebrating every dad this weekend. In honour of Father’s Day, we want to celebrate dads for being who they are. From being the King of awkward jokes to ruling the BBQ, dads are perfect in their ways. So for this week’s Top Five Friday, we regrouped five reasons why they’re awesome. And hey, happy Father’s Day, Dad!
They Make Great Coaches
Odds are, your dad was once your coach. Either he was your sport’s team’s manager (read: the one who took care of taking attendance) or your team’s assistant coach. Rarely the head coach, as you would have hated it as a kid. Maybe he yelled a couple of times, or perhaps he didn’t speak a lot; he kept it on the shy side. Whatever the way he seemed, you probably realize today how great of a coach he was. Maybe he coached you when you took your driver’s license classes, and perhaps he coached you life lessons through high school math problems. But, you see, the thing he coached you at doesn’t matter. What matters is that he tried his best and was happy to help.
Two Words: Take Out
Remember those times when your mom decided to go out for dinner?
They Fix Things
Be it the bike you had as a kid or the front door of your newly renovated house; dads fix things. They’re not always handymen, but they try their best. We have to say that it could have taken less time if we had just brought our bikes to the local repair shop, but dads usually go all in and want to convince themselves they’re hands-on. And we let them.
Usually more rational than a mom, a dad has the good habit of being honest. They don’t take ten routes to tell you how they truly feel about a particular situation and probably told you at age 10 that you would never be a Superhero, nor a Princess. Their honesty makes them awesome since it’s a great trait to have. A bit harsh at times, but still great.
They Have Quite the Sense of Humour
No wonder why dad jokes are called dad jokes! From corny to awkward, and then back to corny, the dad joke phenomenon has proved itself to be true. The term designates a lame joke, either because it is boring, predictable or simply not funny. But at least they try!
- I don’t trust those trees. They seem kind of shady.
- Why don’t eggs tell jokes? They’d crack each other up.
- I could tell a joke about pizza, but it’s a little cheesy.
